The City of Toronto's Road and Trail Safety Ambassador Program is on again for the summer of 2002 albeit in a reduced form. The initial budget request was for 20 Ambassadors but the full amount for cycling safety and education programs was not approved by City Council. The program will go ahead with 'aproximately' five Ambassadors according to the job ad that was sent out by the City of Toronto.

For those interested in a summer job on their bike I have included the Job Description with the contact information. The deadline for applications is April 30th, 2002.

Fax# (416) 397-9818.
We thank all applicants and advise that only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
Committed to employment equity, the City of Toronto encourages applications from Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, racial minorities and women.
NOTE: Candidates who are selected to participate in the interview process will be required to successfully complete a Bike Road Test during the week of May 6.

Part of the Bike Plan is the promotion of cycling as a means of transportation and the education of cyclists about safety. So far it has not gotten the same level of support as the captial projects. Hopefully in the next budget round the City can be convinced that these programs should be expanded as well.
