There is a Smog Advisory for today, Tuesday June 24th.

Another hot day, another smog advisory. I post these as these are one of the health hazards that cyclists face. This danger may not be as obvious as a car door opening in your face but the pollutants in the air can harm people breathing them in while exercising heavily. There is an report on the health effects of smog on bike courriers on the Messengerville web site entitled Choking Us to Death

If you want to receive email warnings of smog alerts you can go to the signup web page. You can also check the current conditions at this Ontario Ministry of the Environment web site.

There are spare the air actions that you can take. They are listed here.

Article Comments:
The smog advisory was terminated at Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at 10:28 PM. The AQI reading last night at 7:00 pm got up to 52, in the poor range, after hovering in the moderate range in the afternoon. It would be nice to think that people are taking actions to spare the air and we did almost side step a smog day yesterday.
