In the past getting from the Martin Goodman Trail to the Humber Trail system was a bit of a chore. You had to cross Lake Shore Blvd and then navigate a series of loops and turns that would bring you to the east side of the Humber River north of the Gardiner Expressway. The Gardiner Expressway and Lake Shore Blvd. bridge works over the Humber have been undergoing reconstruction over the past number of years. One of the promises of that project was a direct link for cyclists and other trail users from the Martin Goodman Trail to the Humber Trail under the new bridges. That promise is finally being fulfilled.

New trails on both sides of the river are now being built. On the west side of the Humber Pedestrian Cycling Bridge a new asphalt trail can be seen splitting off towards the lake and then curling under the Pedestrian Cycling Bridge to head north along the west bank of the Humber River. It will connect to the Tommy Thompson Trail which is part of the Humber Trail System.

There is a great view of the Toronto skyline on the new path that leads under the Humber Pedestrian Cycling Bridge to the Humber Trail system.

As of two weeks ago the path under the Lake Shore and Gardiner was still under construction and unpassable as you can see in the following photos.

Another path is being built along the East bank of the Humber. It will bring riders walkers and bladers to the South Kingsway.

The work on these projects is supposed to be completed by the end of this year. I will keep you posted or if you see that the paving is done let me know.

Article Comments:
it would be helpful if KM were added to map, for people to know how much they have walked or cycled.
