This is the last week in the City of Toronto's Budget process barring any interruptions. Last week the Budget process was delayed briefly while the City waited for the province to announce what help would be coming. The Policy and finance Committee met on Friday to put their stamp of approval on the budget before sending it off to the whole city council. I am not sure if any of the Bike Plan items saw any improvements, the results of that meeting are not available on -line yet.

Last week local cyclists held a media event to highlight the budget requests of supporters of cycling as a form of transportation. Councillor Olivia Chow joined members of the Toronto Cycling Committee (TCC) and other cycling organizations to support our demands.

Stephen Fisher, Co-chair of the Toronto Cycling Committee, Peter Duckworth Pilkington, representative of the Community Bicycle Network to the TCC and Councillor Olivia Chow, co chair of the TCC are on hand at the media event to support funding of the Bike Plan.

This week changes can be made to the budget during council debate if the councillors are so inclined. It is your job to incline them in such a manner. You can contact them by phone, fax or e-mail. To find out who is your councillor and all of their contact information go to the Councillors web page. Again if you send them an e-mail remember to cc BikeToronto at tcc-rep@tbn.ca. Thanks for the letters that have been sent so far. Also I should say thanks to those who came out to the media event and to those who spoke in support of the Bike Plan at the council meeting last week.
