The Toronto Cycling Committee is taking applications for thoses who would like to be citizen -at-large members for the 2001 to 2003 term. The Committee is made of 15 citizens at large members, representatives of 5 organizations including the TBN and one City Councillor(recently Olivia Chow was appointed as the City Councillor on the committee) I am the TBN representative but that does not preclude TBN members from applying for a citizen at large position.

The timelines for application are quite tight so I have included some of the information from the application package below. If you are interested and you want the complete package as well as an application form contact Brad Bartlett at (416) 394-2515.

There is also a way to download the form from the City of Toronto Website. I don't have the linke right now but I will post it in a follow up message.

Here are some excerpts from the application package.

If you are interested in applying, you must:

complete and return the application form by the due date of June 8, 2001 at 4:30 p.m. - late applications will not be accepted. If you are faxing your application please bear in mind the fax line may be busy just before the deadline and you may have difficulty getting through; and attend one of the Information Sessions.

You will be required to attend at least one of the following Information Sessions:

- full Toronto Cycling Committee meeting to be held on June 18, 2001, 7 p.m., Committee Room No. 2, Toronto City Hall;

- Communication and Promotions Sub-Committee meeting to be held on June 21, 2001, 7 p.m., Committee Room No. 2, Toronto City Hall;

- Education and Safety Sub-Committee meeting to be held on June 25, 2001, 7 p.m., Committee Room No. 3, Toronto City Hall; or

- Network Planning and Facilities Sub-Committee meeting to be held on June 26, 2001, 7 p.m., Committee Room No. 313, Metro Hall.

Responsibilities and Meetings

Toronto Cycling Committee usually meets once a month, or at the call of the Chair. Currently the Committee meets on the third Monday evening of each month:

The following working Sub-Committees meet once a month:
Education and Safety Sub-Committee; Promotion and Communications Sub-Committee; and Network Planning and Facilities Sub-Committee.

Meetings are usually held in the evenings; and ad hoc meetings of all or part of the Toronto Cycling Committee may be convened, as required.

Responsibilities:
to represent the interests of cyclists within the City; regular attendance at full committee meetings; active participation on at least one Sub-Committee; and assist with other aspects of the Toronto Cycling Committee's work (i.e. production of newsletters and special events, likely totalling about 4 hours of additional work per month for a total volunteer time of about 10 hours per month).

If you have questions, please call the Committee Secretary, Toronto Cycling Committee, Mr. Brad Bartlett, directly at (416) 394-2515, FAX: (416) 394-2803, or e-mail at bbartle@city.toronto.on.ca.
