Trevor Woerner, a BikeToronto reader, sent me an update regarding the status at the Wilket Creek trail from Sunnybrook Park to Edwards Gardens. That is Bikeway-N51 for those of you keeping score on your Proposed Bikeway Network Map(pdf). It had been damaged more than a year earlier as reported in an earlier story. Here is the before picture.

On July 30, 2001 Trevor said that they had closed the trail to access and had moved heavy equipment and trucks in. Yesterday (August 5, 2001) we went to check out what is happening. It appears quite a lot.

They have now filled in the damage to the approaches to the various bridges. This is the one pictured above.

Long sections of the trail had to be completely replaced along with some spot fixing.

They have removed the old asphalt and rebuilt the trail bed.

The gravel bed has been rolled and is ready for asphalt.

They have also started some landscaping and drainage work.

Works seems to be moving quickly. To my untrained eye it seems they are ready to lay asphalt. I have no confirmation of this but if I hear more I will post a follow-up. Also if anyone has an update feel free to post it as a reply to this post. I probably won't be riding this trail for a couple of weeks.
