A campaign to stop the Front Street Extension is building. A group has been formed called Front&Centre. They have been involved in the City of Toronto budget process and are holding an organizational meeting to discuss further action. You can find more information on their web site: www.frontandcentre.ca. The meeting will be:
Monday April 5th
6:00pm to 8:00pm
Parkdale Library, located at Queen and Cowan
Lower Room

The Front Street Extension is a planned extension of road 2 km west of Bathurst. It is one of the Waterfront Revitalization projects that is to be funded by the three levels of government. Estimates on the cost keep changing but I have seen numbers from $240 million to now $300 million. The project has faced local opposition since its announcement. Those opposed were given some hope when Robert Fung the chair of Toronto's Waterfront's Revitalization Corporation's (TWRC) asked the 3 levels of government for redirection on this project (See previous article). Members of Front&Centre are trying to convince all levels of government to give that redirection. Specifically they want the project reviewed with a look at the impact on the communities along the route and some existing features of the area like Fort York and the CNE grounds.
