This crossing, as do others on this path, has bicycle signals and you would be wise to obey them as the cars coming from the right in the above photo have just come off the DVP and are moving quite quickly. Also be careful crossing here on your green signal as we saw some drivers drive past the stop line and move up to the corner to make a right hand turn. Also be wary of cars turning from Lakeshore as the pillars that hold up the Gardiner Expressway can block the view of the drivers.

Looking south from this vantage point, the northeast corner of Lakeshore Blvd. and Don Roadway, you can see a crossing which goes to a short path that brings you down to Commissioners Street.

Looking east is the freshly paved path to Carlaw Avenue. It runs under the shadow of the Gardiner onramp for a short distance and then out into the open.

Looking west along the north side of Lakeshore you can see that the sun does indeed stream in now that the Gardiner has been dismantled. From left to right are pictured the new Gardiner onramp, Lakeshore Blvd, the new Bikeway, train marshalling yards and the Toronto skyline. I was surprised to find that there was activity in these yards when we were riding there during the day on Monday.

Looking west at Carlaw Ave. and Lakeshore Blvd you can see that the path to Leslie Street has not been completed yet. It has been delayed due to some soil contamination that was found. There are currently consultations going on to determine what to do to solve the problem before construction can resume. That will probably happen next year.

The Leslie Street to Coxwell Ave. section is also slated be done next year as well as the landscaping along the length of the path. Also there are planned upgrades to the path on the south side of Lakeshore between Coxwell and Leslie.

This route, once completed will provide a direct and efficient route for cyclists between downtown Toronto and the East side of the city. It also forms connections to the Don Trail and is a good first step in building our new Bikeway Network.
