Update to:
Martin Goodman Trail Marilyn Bell bypass nearing completion Posted: May-03-06

The Martin Goodman Trail bypass trail through Marilyn Bell Park was completed last week. This is part of a project of the Toronto Waterfront Revitilization Corporation that will see the trail twinned from the western edge of Marilyn Bell park to the western edge of Ontario Place. You can see plans for the project on pages 29 to 43 of the following document Martin Goodman Trail Improvement Update - Nov. 23 2005.

Cyclists are enjoying the fresh asphalt of the Marilyn Bell Park bypass trail. Its twin trail along the water's edge is currently under construction due to be completed by August 2006.

Now crews are working on the waterfront promenade through Marilyn Bell park. It will consist of a 2 metre board walk closest to the water, the existing steps will remain. Then there will be a 4 metre wide pedestrian walkway with interlocking brick. Next to that will be a 5.5 metre wide asphalt recreational trail that will striped with the signature blue and green centre lines of the Martin Goodman trail. This will provide plenty of room for all trail users. This is due to be completed by August 2006 in time for the The 2006 Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships as Marilyn Bell Park is the venue for this event.

The next phase of work on the trail is on the section of trail south of Exhibition Place between Marilyn Bell Park and Ontario Place. Here the bypass trail will be extended to Ontario Place. For more information on this see the previous article. Work on this phase will start in September after the CNE closes. The waterfront promenade will not be done in this area till future years.
