On Friday August 11th, 2006 the Mayor officially opened the new, but temporary, leg of the Martin Goodman Trail on Queen's Quay by painting a metre of the signature blue and green stripes on the reclaimed roadway. This capped off the work that had been done ln the previous week to create a blke path and pedestian promenade on the two east bound lanes of Queen's Quay. On Saturday August 12th was the offlcial ribbon cutting and inaugural ride along the newly opened path. About 35 cyclists joined the staff from the TWRC and some dignitaries including Olivia Chow, the local Member of Parliament, for the event. The new trail will be open till August 20th so make sure you get out and give it a try and then let the local politicians know you want it to become permanent as soon as possible. | | Queen's Quay is open to cyclists as a temporary Martin Goodman Trail is constructed with some grass, flowers and some forward thinking. | You can read more about the plans for making this permanent in the previous article. Do you know if the long-term plans (i.e. for the permanent incarnation of the bike lane) has different arrangements for school buses?
Right now they're pulling school buses onto the bike path to load/unload. There is *very* little clearance around them, especially when they're moving, and they can sit for quite a while when (un)loading. And since the path has curbs on both sides, it's hard to bail out and ride on the grass.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a show-stopper. If a better solution to parking school buses on the path can't be found, I don't think the path should go in. It's safer to ride in traffic.

Is there any news on when the permanent bike lane on Queen's Quay will be constructed? I've heard no real news about this since last year's trial. Posted by: crumb on 16-Jul-2007 at 11:14 am
