Bike lane update October 30th, 2007: Greenwood Painted, Royal York up for approval Posted: Oct-30-07

A work crew was busy painting the newest bike lane this Saturday, November 10th on the Queensway from Windermere to Claude Avenue which is just west of Roncesvalles. When these are finished they will add another 1.8 km of bike lane to the 4.7 km that have been confirmed to be completed so far in 2007.

Work Crews were working to paint the Queensway bike lanes this weekend. This is at the South East corner of The Queensay and Windermere looking East.

This project is an example of road reconstruction done right. The Toronto Bike Plan only had bike lanes proposed for the section of The Queensway east of Colborne Lodge Road and not for the section west of that. When the section of The Queensway came up for reconstruction, staff working on the project saw the opportunity to extend the bicycle lanes right from Claude Ave to Windermere and incorporated them into the plans.

The reconstruction project was completed a while ago, but the bike lanes could not be completed until they were approved by City Council. The City had painted the traffic lanes leaving room for the future bike lane to be painted once the approvals were in place. The final approval by City Council occurred in July of 2007.

These bike lanes could be continued west of Windermere depending on what happens with the South Kingsway-Queensway Redesign which the Toronto Pedestrian Committee has been trying to get back on track: South Kingsway Re-Design on Pedestrian Committee Agenda

Thanks for the information. I ride in this area frequently, so the bike lane is a welcome addition!
