1) Are you familiar with the Toronto Bike Plan and as Mayor will you support its implementation of as one means of reducing car dependance as outlined in Toronto's Official Plan?Strongly Support
Comments: I am not familiar with Toronto’s bike plan , but any implementation of a plan that reduces dependency on cars is a step in the right direction. I have returned a "FEET on the STREET" questionnaire which also focused on pedestrian safety and improving sidewalks. I would, as Mayor, use the office to further the goal of reducing car dependency and creating a better atmosphere for cyclists.

2) Would you support requests to amend bylaws to exempt bicycles from traffic calming turn restrictions and entry restrictions on streets?Strongly Support
Comments: Traffic calming and turn restrictions are meant for cars and I do believe that bicycles should have their own dedicated lanes and be exempt from certain car restrictions. I would support any efforts to help bicyclists receive exemptions from car restrictions and support changed bylaws to allow cyclists more freedom of movement.

3) Do you support measures to ensure that the City of Toronto's policy of keeping bike lanes clear of snow is carried out; and would you support expanding this policy to off road paths?Somewhat Support
Comments: I am a City of Toronto employee; I had to take a leave of absence to facilitate my running for Mayor that is how serious I am taking this election. Clearing of snow on bike paths can be done on paths that are accessible to the machines necessary to carry this out. Bicycling during the winter seems awfully COLD. If the money is there to allow clearing of bike paths without sacrificing other clearing efforts I would support these efforts. Clearing off road paths could be problematic and could be dangerous to city employees. If clearing of off road paths is viable I would support a trial project to clear the heavier used paths and expand the project from there.

4a) To build the Bikeway Network over the next three years, the Bike Plan recommends that the following amounts be spent by the Works and Emergency Services to build new bike lanes, paths and signed Bike Routes, and by Parks and Recreation to build new bike paths.
YearWorks and Emergency Services% of Works Capital BudgetParks and Recreation% of Parks Capital Budget
2004$3.0 M1.23%$1.2 M1.66%
2005$4.5 M1.85%$1.2 M1.66%
2006$6.0 M2.46%$1.5 M2.08%
** Based on 2003 Parks capital budget of .1 M
* Based on 2003 Works capital budget of .67 M
Will you support the above budget requests to implement the Bike Plan?Somewhat Support
Comments: I am not familiar with the details of the Bike Plan. I would as Mayor balance the city budget reduce the waste in city hall and put forward every effort to allow your funding plan to take place. I cannot say for sure whether I could endorse your plan for funding. I am being honest with your group as I cannot comment on aspects I am unsure of.

5) Do you support streamlining the approval process for bike lanes in order to reduce the delay between the proposal and the completion of new bike lanes?Strongly Support
Comments: I am, like your group I’m sure, frustrated by the lack of action by city hall on many issues. Part of my campaign is to make actions speak louder than words and actually do something about the things this city needs, not more talk or committee meetings and reports. Red tape is the nemesis of every taxpayer in this city I would work to reduce this bureaucratic nightmare.

6) Do you support improved integration between Cycling and The Transit system by such measures as: Bike carrying racks on TCC Buses, and, building secure bike parking facilities at TCC stations?Somewhat Support
Comments: I would support a pilot project in heavily traveled bike routes. TTC support could be difficult, if proper funding is in place from different levels of government the task would be easier to pitch.

7) Do you support an expanded city-funded bicycle safety program for adults and children?Strongly Support
Comments: Together with the FEET on the STREET organization, pedestrian safety and bicyclists safety should be a priority to city hall and the police services, funding a program toward this goal can be incorporated with other programs to justify the costs.

8) Would you support dedicating more resources to promote bicycle commuting by employees of private and public sector employers, including City of Toronto staff?Strongly Support
Comments: Any program that reduces dependency on cars and more on public transit, cycling and walking should be given every opportunity to succeed. Many problems do exist, such as the later opening of the subway, uncaring car drivers and unsafe conditions for cycling. If efforts are made to improve these conditions a program to promote cycling would be more effective.

9) Would you support initiatives to promote Toronto as a Bicycle Tourism destination?Strongly Support
Comments: Efforts to increase Toronto as a tourism destination should be endorsed and forwarded. Many different efforts must come together to make Toronto a destination. Our infrastructure is crumbling all around the city and must be addressed immediately. Included in infrastructure plan I would endorse before city hall would include a plan for cyclists.

10) Would you support the extension of the former City of Toronto's Zoning Bylaw regarding Bicycle Parking Requirements (which requires bike parking facilities as well as shower and change facilities) to cover all new commercial and residential buildings across the rest of the Megacity?Somewhat Support
Comments: Funding is problematic for a program of this nature. I do support the need and the theory behind the plan.
